In a city as old as Rome, with nearly 2800 years under it´s belt, one would expect to find many old things. And as you might know by now, The Edited loves a good piece of something vintage, clothing that is. We took a weekend trip to The Eternal City, and we must say, had a few religious experiences in some of this city´s many beautiful holy grails, which for us of course is vintage stores.
Flamingo
Ok we are DEAD. This vintage shop is every girl who loves vintage archive pieces, but doesn´t really love the actual hunt for its, dream. The store is super beautifully curated, and everything in this shop is just that. Beautiful. We found a truly unique D&G jacket from the 90´s that was just IT. Everything that missed from my life. It didn´t fit, no matter how hard I tried. I will never get over it. This store is in the Monti area, and it is obvious that this store´s owner has an expert eye. You can spend hours in here looking through all the pieces, there is so much good stuff. It is in a higher price range and most of the items are designer labels, but you can also find decently priced unlabeled vintage of high quality, as well as some cool jewellery.
Other cool shops in Monti:
A small but high-quality selection of avant-garde consignment with both men’s and women’s options.
Here you’ll find Italian maximalist vintage dripping with rare Gucci finds and walls lined with designer shoes.
This thrift store has a ton of menswear options and low prices.
Twice Vintage Store
This is a really cool vintage store in the very hip neighbourhood Travestere, a perfect place to nip in and out in between the many bars and amazing places to eat when you are in this hood. This place is founded by two sisters and you can find pieces here from the 1920´s as well as from the 1990´s. It is somewhat overpriced I think, probably because the neighbourhood is so hip and cool, but you can find many unique things here you will have to try really, really hard to find anywhere else. Definetly worth checking out.
Porta Portese
Romans love this large weekend market with affordable vintage finds, antiques, and more. Get there early to get your pick of the best.
Pifebo Vintage Shop
Recognisable by its red shopfront, Pifebo is the oldest second-hand clothing shop in Rome, and only that part is pretty cool in itself. They bring out new pieces every day, and specialize in goodies from the 1980´s and -90s. What´s not to love!
Other cool shops to check out:
Blue Goose:
This second-hand shop has clothing, jewellery, shoes and bags. It’s the perfect spot for snapping up a few inexpensive non-designer pieces along with haute couture pieces such as Missoni, Gucci, Fendi. Yeeeeey.
Humana Vintage:
This store in the Monti district offers a large selection of vintage clothing for men and women from the 1960s to 1990s. The shelves are continually restocked with daily arrivals. With two other retail outlets in Rome (in the Rione Monti and a stone’s throw from the Piazza Navona, on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II), this second-hand clothing chain belongs to Humana People to People Italia, a charitable association that supports development projects in the southern hemisphere and helps to protect the environment by selling and collecting second-hand clothing. LOVE IT!
